The consignment deal
You set the retail price of your products.
We take:
- Commission - We take 21% of the retail price. That percentage decreases as your sales grow.
- Handling charge - We take £1 per item sold. This charge is not applied to digital sales.
- Postage and packing charges - added on top of the retail price.
- Warehousing charges - Free. We do not charge for storing stock. However capacity is limited to 5 copies of each product.
- Processing charges - Free. we make no charge for accepting products into our database.
For example, for a CD that retails at £10:
- CD retail: £10
- Our 21% commission: £2.10
- Our handling charge: £1
- You receive: £6.90
The customer will pay £10 plus the postage charge.
What you need to send us
We require six copies of each product including one copy (on CD) for ripping and archiving. As stock levels drop we will make further consignment requests of five copies or more.
We will rip the tracks from the extra CD to create preview clips and high quality encodings for digital download sales. For vinyl formats, a CD-R from the master will suffice, however the CD must be of CD audio format (also known as "red book").
You must also include a consignment form every time you send us products.
Consignment form
We cannot accept products for sale without a sonomu consignment form. When you have a new product to send us, you describe it through the sonomu interface. You may then generate a consignment form containing the barcode for that product as a PDF file to print out.
Note that as soon as you describe a product in sonomu, you can set it to appear as a forthcoming product in the shop. We encourage you to describe a product as soon as possible.
