Idlewild

profiles

The band once famously described as a flight of stairs falling down a flight of stairs have never been a letdown live but, given that 'The Remote Part' is the best album any guitar band's created this year we can probably expect something especially special from the Woomble-fronted wonders. Their incendiary-to-the-point-of-PA-smashing shows of late might have had rather less rolling around the floor than we've been used to, but, if anything, Idlewild have become a more focussed and even more exhilarating prospect as they've grown up, refining their hardcore instincts and tousling their hair in increasingly Smithsian and REMish directions to create a beautiful and compelling spectacle, although, as their reruns through old favourites show, the songs were there all along anyway. Our money's on them headlining next time around. Go, 'Wild!
